Benefits of Superficial Peeling
Unlike chemical peels in a medical office, everyone
can benefit from mild peels. These peels can be
performed in no time and will leave the client with
visible results and refreshed skin. Other benefits of
superficial peeling are: lower cost, little to no recovery
time, low risk and the flexibility to include them in
Glycolic peels were typically used in the past to
help treat hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone,
but the newest versions combine alpha hydroxy acids
(AHAs) with deep cleansing kaolin clay to create a
peeling effect without potential irritation. Follow
that with a sheet mask that combines peptides and
seaweed to help hydrate, firm and brighten the skin’s
appearance. Skin will look brighter, texture will be
refined and the appearance of wrinkles will be lifted,
while skin remains hydrated and supple.

non-oily eye makeup remover.
Step 2. Cleanse skin with a cleanser that also
contains mild, hydrating oils. Use a mechanical
•Deep peels. Deep peels are the most invasive
and most risky. Carbonic acid (phenol) is a
solution classically used in deep peels, but
can be painful to the skin. This procedure is
performed under anesthesia, and must be
performed under medical supervision. After
a phenol peel, the face will be swollen and
can take up to a month to fully recover.
Possible other side effects of deep peels
include: excessive peeling, redness, irritation,
blistering, swelling, burning, scarring,
infection, solar sensitivity and bleeding.
•Medium peels. Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) is
a chemical commonly used in medium peels.
TCA peels are done on an outpatient basis,
but may require light sedation depending
on the concentration of TCA used. Higher
concentrations of acid will penetrate the
skin more deeply, resulting in more dramatic
improvements, but may also cause more
discomfort and a longer recovery time. Though
TCA chemical peels are applied in the same
way as milder chemical peels, the acid used
in TCA peels is much more potent, causing
a more significant burn. After TCA peels, a
superficial crust forms over the treated area,
then peels off within three to seven days.
•Superficial peels. These peels are the mildest
and thus safest peels for the skin. Peels
containing glycolic acid, lactic acid, fruit acids
or papaya enyzmes fall into this category.
Unlike deep or medium level peels, peels at
this level are not meant to require medical
attention. Additionally, the purpose of these
“lighter peels” is to eliminate harsh side
effects that can happen with deep or medium
